Starting a company is exciting. Hopefully, things go well and your new company grows. Growth in a new business is great, but it does bring with it an issue: staffing.

So, here are a few tips to help you make good decisions when you're hiring your staff.

  1. First, identify the jobs you need done. Take an inventory of the roles you need filled. This will help you save time as you review résumés and interview applicants.
  2. Next, you have to let people know you're looking. There are a few ways to do this.
    • Tap into your social network. Maybe someone you know is looking, or knows someone who is.
    • Advertise: Write an ad describing the position and expectations. Use local and/or online classifieds.
    • Consider a staffing company. If you need several people, you may just want to outsource the job of finding them, after all - you've got a new company to run.
  3. Be ready to review a lot of résumés and allow for plenty of time for interviewing. Be picky, there's nothing worse than realizing you wasted a bunch of time and resources by hiring the wrong person for the job.
